Andy Goggin: The Songs

DON'T PLAY MY SONGS ON THE RADIO

(Sung by session singer - Nashville, U.S.A.)
Music & lyrics by Andy Goggin. Produced by Galen Breen.
It seemed to me that quite often a famous artist will suddenly disappear from the spotlight at the height of their career.
I speculated as to what could make someone drop an apparently glittering and succesful life.
This song is the result of my speculations.
Well you think I´ve got the answers
Hell, I don´t even understand your questions.
And you treat me like a guru
Even though I´m really open for suggestions.
And you put me on a pedestal
And you think I´m gonna make your lives alright,
But my only true solution, is not a revolution
But the company of Jack Daniels every night.

Been on the road forever
Burnt my hands when I tried to catch the sun.
Poured my heart out to the roadies
And I´ve played with every superstar and bum.
But the roads keep getting longer
And the crowds well they all start to look the same.
My life, the Main Attraction, gives no longer satisfaction
Hell, next year you might not even know my name.

Don´t play my songs on the radio
Don´t make my words the path you go.
Don´t you believe what the papers say
Tear down my posters and throw them away!

So I´ll pack away my guitar
And I´ll put on my patent leather shoes,
´Cos I´m tired of playing rock `n´ roll
When my heart only wants to sing the blues.
Gonna move out to the country
Buy a horse and maybe try to settle down.
´Cos the drugs and exaltations, can´t be paid by revelations
When the vacant eyes of nightmares come around.
